The Assignment

SUS aims to become a stronger player in advocacy work as student influence, participation, and community during their time at university create a world-class study experience. The mission of the Student Union of Stockholm University (SUS) is to promote the conditions for this at Stockholm University. To enable this, everyone working at SUS has a process-oriented approach towards students, members, and each other. In every assignment, there is a strive to proactively and collaboratively identify needs and issues that are important for students. The role of political secretary is a new position and the job is a temporary replacement for a colleague who is on part-time leave.

The political secretary's responsibilities include supporting the student council and elected representatives within the student influence structure, as well as contributing to the development of political decisions and strategies. The role combines analytical work with strategic advice and requires a good ability to translate complex information into clear and useful decision-making materials. The political secretary also acts as a point of contact between student politics and external actors, such as authorities, organizations, and interest groups, contributing to a well-founded, transparent, and effective political process.

Examples of tasks:

Main tasks:

  • Prepare materials, reports, and analyses on political issues.
  • Write opinion articles and other political communications in the field of higher education policy in consultation with the board and presidency.
  • Monitor legislation, regulations, and other relevant political processes.
  • Prepare political proposals, speeches, consultation responses, and presentations.
  • Coordinate contacts with authorities, organizations, partners, and other relevant actors.
  • Search for and manage external grants and funding opportunities.
  • Support, lead processes, and educate students, members, and staff on issues related to public opinion and advocacy work.

About you:

We are looking for someone with a university degree in journalism, communication, or equivalent. You are interested in argumentative and investigative writing and have an understanding of writing in accordance with the organization's opinions and values. The primary working language is Swedish, but since Stockholm University has many international students, good knowledge of English is a requirement. It is an advantage if you have previously worked within the political landscape.

As a person, you are a socially interested, creative team player with a good ability to work structured and independently. You are solution-focused, proactive, enjoy collaborating with others, and are willing to try new approaches.

Other:

The position is a temporary replacement starting as soon as possible and initially lasting until June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension. The temporary position is up to 70%. You will work at the SUS office located in bright premises directly adjacent to Stockholm University. In addition to wonderful colleagues to work with, we offer wellness benefits and regular working hours of 36.25 hours per week. We hope you can start as soon as possible. The position is covered by the applicable collective agreement.

Welcome with your application.
